Text to 911 Graphic

In emergency situations, every second counts. It is now possible to send a text message to 911, a vital resource for those unable to make voice calls. Please read to learn more information and how to utilize this service.
When to Text 911?
-Individuals with speech or hearing impairments
-Those who are in unsafe or dangerous situations
-Medical emergencies where an individual is incapable of speech
-Additionally, the Text to 911 service can interpret messages received in languages other than English.
How Do I Text 911?
1.  Enter “911” into the recipient field
2. Describe your emergency and INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS
3. Press Send
4. Stay engaged and be prepared for a Dispatcher to respond. Remain in contact and respond to the additional questions that may be asked.
Basic Requirements:
-You must have a text-capable phone and a wireless service plan
-Any messaging apps (such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc.) WILL NOT WORK for text to 911
USE TEXTING FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY!
For all non-emergencies, please contact Richfield Police Dispatch at (330)-659-9500
DO NOT send photos or videos, 911 cannot receive them
Clear Communication is Key:
-Avoid abbreviations, slang, and emojis
-Keep messages short and to the point
Example: “I need an ambulance at 123 Main Road, 30-year-old female fell and hit her head.”
Important Notes:
-Texting may be delayed by 5 to 10 seconds
-DO NOT group text or message multiple recipients
-Text to 911 is not available in all areas. If unavailable, you’ll receive an automatic reply instructing you to call 911
REMEMBER VOICE CALLS ARE THE BEST
If you are able, call 911 directly! Voice calls allow for quicker and more detailed communication. They also help if additional information is needed.
This is meant to provide additional means of contacting emergency services and should never replace the traditional method of dialing 911 in an emergency. Stay safe!
